Vice-Chancellor
Recruitment

WE ARE PROFESSIONALLY CREATIVE.

Hear Sharanjit Leyl, Chancellor of BSU, introduce the University and outline her thoughts about what the University is looking for in its next Vice-Chancellor

Welcome

We are proud to serve Bath Spa University. During a period of significant change for the UK higher education (HE) sector we have flourished as a progressive modern institution by capitalising on our strengths and continually seeking to improve our offering to students. For instance, over 39% of our courses are new or substantially revised since 2020.

In my view, the transformation of the University over the last five years can be attributed to four principal strategic changes: a significant investment in a stream-lined physical estate and in our digital infrastructure; the appointment of new academic and professional service staff; a major overhaul of our curricula; the expansion of our partnership programme.

In line with our strategy to 2030, we have seen our student body significantly grow both in terms of quality and diversity. More students now study a BSU course outside Bath than inside the city. This work of several years has been recognised by the award of University of the Year 2024 for Social Inclusion by the THES.

Bath Spa University is a beautiful and wonderfully creative institution right in the heart of Bath and the South West of England with two principal campuses in the City and one in London, offering a full range of undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate research courses. We nurture a real sense of belonging and a supportive community feel that allow our talented students to thrive and go on to successful careers in their chosen field. We put the student experience at the heart of everything we do and are rightly proud of the achievements of our students, staff and alumni.

Our inspiring campuses are steeped in history, balancing beautiful period buildings and breath-taking settings with ultramodern technology and facilities.

Establishing a strong platform from which to grow our reputation, the new Vice-Chancellor must demonstrate strong leadership to guide the University through a challenging and exciting time for the higher education sector. We now seek a capable, creative and visionary Vice-Chancellor to ensure we capitalise on our achievements to date, meet the desires and needs of our current and future talented students in a rapidly changing world and become a world leading university for creativity, culture, enterprise and education.

We welcome your application and thank you for your time. We look forward to hearing from you.
